Stevie has been racing since the age of 10, starting in Quarter Midgets. In 1998, at age 15, Stevie made the move into Sprintcars. Not only did this make him the youngest Sprintcar driver in New Zealand, but it was more remarkable given that the power of the Sprintcar is approximately 28 times that of the Quarter Midget (600Hp as compared to 28Hp). That would test any driver's ability!
Not only did Stevie adjust quickly and almost effortlessly, but he also drove the car to some extremely good results. The highlights of which were two heat race wins and an excellent drive to lead the first 23 out of 30 laps during the South Pacific Classic at Western Springs (this was done despite a top-class entry list including, the current NZ title holder, current NZ number 2, two visiting Australian Sprintcar team members, and several other very competitive drivers).
Since those early days, Stevie has established himself as a tough and respected competitior.
Stevie continues to stay within the Sprintcar ranks for the 2000-2001 season and will be racing weekly at Western Springs Speedway in Auckland, as well as competing at other event held throughout New Zealand.
